Many at All Strung Out have enjoyed learning to knit Monkey Jacobus. How about knitting Jacobus’ cousin, Teddy Bear Vera?
Teddy Bear Vera by Annita Wilschut
is a classic teddy bear, knit in the round in one piece. The head is knit first, from the back to the nose, then the body, the legs and the arms. Finally the ears are added. When you are finished knitting, your bear can be stuffed, without hours of additional connecting and sewing. Vera can be knit from various types and weights of yarn, the weight of yarn determining the size, and using the magic loop technique with one long circular needle (recommended), or 4 double-pointed needles.
By the end of the classes, you (or a young friend) will not only have a lovely bear, but will have learned or developed many useful techniques that can be transferred to other projects – this is a great skill-building project!
(Bonus: once you’re done, you might want to make your bear some clothes! Check out the “Monkey & Bear Need Clothes” class.)
