Discovering Ravelry.com : Profile and Database

Saturday May 11
10 am to Noon

Ravelry.com is the online global community for fiber enthusiasts.  Often described as “Facebook for Knitters”, Ravelry is more than just a social network.   It is a community, a database, a marketplace, an organization and sharing tool all rolled into one!  Many stitchers have heard of ravelry; many more have accounts that they rarely access; still more have the desire to use ravelry for more than its pattern database, but just don’t know where to start!  In this class, we will build your Ravelry confidence.

This session will focus on establishing your profile and project page as well as navigating the databases.   We will address frequently asked questions, such as “How do I up load photos of my project page?” and “How do I share my work with other Ravelers?”  We will also go over the basics of how to use the yarn and pattern database search functions to get the most out of your Raveling.  Participants are invited to bring their laptops for real-time Ravelry experience in class.

Pre-requisite:  Participants must already have a Ravelry account and basic internet navigation skills.

Cost: $25 plus tax.

Oops!!! Class: Fixing Your Knitting Mistakes

Wednesday May 15
7 pm to 9 pm
Teacher: Ash Kearns

The MOST frequently asked question knitters ask is , “How do I fix my mistakes!?!” We all have those moments where we must decide to tink, rip back or frog  a project entirely.   Fixing mistakes comes with practice and that’s what this class is designed to give you!  Slipped a stitch? Knit when you should have purled?  Missed an increase or decrease?  We will go over some of the most common knitting errors and how to fix them.  Elizabeth Zimmerman said “be the boss of your knitting”, telling us that, with enough time and practice, we can tame our work into submission.  With this in mind, we will cheer each other on and better establish the mind set needed for tackling present and future knitting challenges!  BE THE BOSS of your knitting and take this class!

Pre-requisites: Basic knitting, stitch recognition, increases and decreases

Cost: $25 plus tax and materials.

In this session, we will explore the Forum and Group functions of Ravelry.  Learn how to take part or begin an online conversation, how to add photos or videos to your communications, and how to “magic link”.  We will also explore other ravelry groups and how to join in the fun.  You may be inspired to start your own forum group, become a group moderator or a volunteer editor! Participants are invited to bring their laptops for real-time Ravelry experience in class.
